george cottage

George Cottage is a traditional stone cottage, with flag stone floors and an open fire, situated at the back of The General Stores.

It has an open courtyard with a built in BBQ and outdoor seating if booked on its own, with an entrance down a dog leg path via the back onto Stars Pitch.  Or a door can be opened in the high stone wall adjoining the two properties leading from the top lawn of the main house and George Cottage can be booked as an additional unit to the General Stores, meaning that it can share all the hot tub and spa facilities of the main house when booked by and for large groups.

The Sitting Room has two very comfy three seated cream sofas, each covered by a reindeer skin, and one of them being a strong slatted sofa bed.  There is wi-fi and sky TV available.

There are logs for the open fire and more in the courtyard, which you are welcome to use during your stay.  A large mahogany tall boy contains a set of hot wheels for kids, and some colouring things, packs of cards, toys and games for smallish children.  There are magazines on the table and a selection of books and lots of videos for older children.

The Dining Room has a 1950′s retro feel with original 1950′s chairs and a large original painting by Nell Nile.  The glass table can seat 8 if pulled away from the wall.  There are wooden toddler toys at floor level and a wooden noah’s arc too.  There is a full set of turquoise, white and gold china and serving dishes in the glass fronted cabinet.

The Kitchen, whilst being long and thin, is definately more than a galley, with a washing machine and a dishwasher and all you might need for eating in or out, or picnicking in the forest.

There is a picnic basket available and vintage table and chair set complete with picnic rug.

There is also a great selection of cookery books, cocktail shakers and bar equipment and some baking things for rainy day fun with kids – even weighing scales for the serious baker.

The Bathroom is small but perfectly formed – with fresh white tongue and groove on all the walls, a steel bath, a vintage style Waverley hand wash basin and wc.

The Vintage Rose Double Bedroom upstairs has a double bed and small pine tables each side of the bed.  A vintage smock hangs over the bed and the curtains are made from Old Rose linen cloth.  The bench also has Old Rose cushions, and a ‘bunk’ ladder leads up to the ‘mezzanine’ single bed behind curtains.  There are plenty of cupboards for storing belongings whilst staying.

And finally – The Bird of Paradise Double Room – featuring vintage french Birds of Paradise curtains and cushions, limited edition Habitat chairs by the beds and an old fashioned rocking horse.  There is also a single bed enabling the room to be used as a double, twin or family room, and there is a large pine wardrobe with plenty of hangers for three if required.

George Cottage, let as an additional unit to The General Stores, sharing all the leisure and spa facilities of the main house – £650.00 for a weekend or up to £750.00 for a full week, Christmas or New Year Long Weekend – depending on number of guests.
