If travelling from Bristol by far the quickest route is via Chepstow and along the A48 towards Gloucester on the Welsh side of the river. This avoids all the small villages in The Forest itself, and also avoids any potential rush hour traffic or road works in Gloucester.

Proceed along the A48, and through Newnham on Severn. Out the other side of Newnham, you will pass Glevum Conservatories on your right, and a Texaco Garage on your left. You will see signs, on the right hand side of the road, to Flaxley and Mitcheldean. The turning itself is fairly concealed on the left hand side, on the brow of the hill, before a cottage. Mitcheldean is 4 miles from this point, along beautiful country lanes. Follow signs for Flaxley, past the abbey and chapel, and then proceed to Mitcheldean. Once you enter Mitcheldean, at The Lamb pub, turn left onto the mini roundabout, and then immediately right. When you see the church infront of you and The George pub on your right hand side, turn left into Mill End St. The General Stores is the brown and white half timbered building on your left hand side. Drive past The General Stores, and take the second left turning, then turn first left and first left again (into New St.). At the bottom of New St, you will see a gravelled car-park infront of you, through wooden gates set into a low stone wall. This is the car-park for The General Stores. Drive in, and park tightly against a wall to maximise parking and enter the property via the large wooden gates at the back of the space.

If travelling from London or The North, come off the motorway at Gloucester, and leave it on the A40 - the Ross and Monmouth Road. Continue on the A40 and follow signs for Ross, until you reach the village of Huntley. Then turn left at the lights, taking the A4136 for Monmouth. On arrival into Mitcheldean, The Lamb Pub will be on your left. Turn right at the mini roundabout and proceed over the brow of the hill.
