Mill End can accommodate up to 40 people over 4 apartments.
Mill End 'main house' comprises beautifully and creatively decorated, four star-graded themed bedrooms, sleeping up to 25 over 10 bedrooms.
The Lower Stores additional Apartment has a woodland room with a king sized sofa bed and a double bed, a twin bedroom) and the Jovial Colliers additional Apartment provides a double room, a bunk room, a walk through play room/dress up photo studio and a large family bathroom.
There is also a three star graded cottage which can sleep up to 9 guests (though with 6 beds so we wouldn’t recommend more than 6 adults unless you want to reduce price per head), which belongs to my partner and which can be accessed through a large gate in the stone wall between the main house and cottage when booked in conjunction with The General Stores main house and/or apartments.
In terms of social spaces, in the main house you will have
- Upper Malt House dining hall which can seat 40 with a commercial style open plan kitchen with catering facilities for 60+; hard wired i-phone dock and a sofa at one end
- Lower Malt House sitting room with 65” TV with 5 large leather sofas and additional single seating, along with a second open plan kitchen and the cocktail bar & cocktail trolley
- Green Oak Timber Framed Garden Room with a pool table and solid fuel stove, two squashy sofas for early morning cups of coffee and seating for late night games of pool and tapas round a table.
- Spa space with infrared sauna, steam sauna and mezzanine massage and treatment area
- Courtyard garden with outdoor seating and hot tub
- BBQ area with two fire pits, pizza oven (to hire), gas BBQ, herbs in pots and aluminium trays for using on BBQ and fire pits
- Lawn with children’s play area, submerged trampoline and small sand pit
Hiring the house gets you full and exclusive use of the outdoor hot tub and indoor steam sauna and infra-red sauna cabins, spa space, pool table and cocktail bar.
All bedrooms have white cotton towels and bed linen throughout and all pillows and duvets are feather down (we have man-made fibre sets ready to go with cotton covers, in the cupboard in the Butterfly room, in an ottoman in the blue room and in a cupboard in the Cottage) for those allergic to feathers.
At Mill End Mitcheldean we take our impact on the environment very seriously, and hope you do too! When you are with us we have provided as much as possible to help you reduce your carbon foot print. Guest hospitality is from Prija, which uses re-cycled cardboard packaging and animal free glue – and is a really lovely product too! Including hypo-allergenic creams and cleansers featuring fine ingredients and exotic fragrances, Prija is a warm and earthy product line. It appeals to customers who are sensitive to the quality of cosmetics, and to the design of complimentary items. We also have hand-made hospitality soaps from Mitcheldean soaps.
The kitchen washing up liquids and cleaning items are from the bioD range – biodegradable environmentally friendly products which is made to have minimum impact on the environment. The range is safe, effective and kind to hands, containing eco friendly ingredients including vegetable oil, citric acid and vegetable glycerine, it helps to condition sensitive skin. It is not tested on animals and is free from sodium lauryl sulphate. We try to use this range of products wherever possible, and encourage guests to use what we provide during their stays.
We have very organized boxes and hessian coffee bags for re-cycling both in the Upper Malt House and outside in the courtyard garden. We ask that you use these as much as possible, as we pay for Printwaste to take recycling away – including hard plastics, tetra packs, tins, bottles, paper and card. Please dispose of all packaging carefully as we’re not keen on having to sort it ourselves! Any rubbish which can’t be recycled, please put in black bin bags (provided, degradable) and put in the large square wheelie bins in the car park. There are also local council green re-cycling boxes for if you run out of space in the indoor hessian bags during your stay.
composting & chickens
For those interested in going the whole hog – we have a compost heap through the gate behind the hot tub – raw fruit and vegetables ONLY please. and a bird table which feeds a small squirrel, our resident robin and various other birds.
Oh – and finally – if there are food items in the fridge when you leave, which you aren’t taking with you, please don’t bin them! We hate to see food thrown away when there are so many people in the world without – we will compost it, put it on the bird table or give it to two of our cleaners, both of whom keep chickens and ducks! And if you have half bottles of wine and alcohol left, we will make dressings, chutneys and preserves too.
conservation of heat
And finally, finally – please turn heaters down or off if you are too warm, turn off lights and heaters when you leave your rooms or the house , close curtains when it gets dusk to keep any available warmth in the house and close windows when you go out or leave so that rain doesn't sile in! It is a large house and if you let all the heat out it is hard to bring it up to temperature again in the evenings!
The owners redecorate, change and improve the interior décor regularly and occasionally have to carry out repairs as a result of previous bookings, and so guests must be aware that interiors might differ, or they might be offered a slightly different configuration of parts of the house – always the same as and often more than they have booked – never less.
