The weekend went really well. Everyone arrived without a hitch, we got all the cars in to the car park and all the party loved Mill End. We had 20 adults and 24 kids in the end and they all fitted in no problem. The ocado order arrived as planned, we had a lovely dinner for everyone on the Friday night along with movies for the kids and prosecco for the adults. Saturday breakfast involved pancakes and croissants for everyone (all sitting down at the two banqueting tables) and then we headed out for the day to Puzzle Wood which the kids loved and meant the adults got some respite from the wine! We played rounders and cricket (in the rain) on the playing fields in Mitcheldean and then got the kids home for pizza and garlic bread all round before settling them down for movies and games. The babysitters arrived bang on time and were great – I gave them a little tip as they did so well to keep on top of things. The wine tasting was fun (fruit wines were interesting!) and my wife orchestrated the preparation of the catering you’d left for us. The beef bourguignon was a hit and we drank champagne and caught up on old times, looking through photos of our university days and singing a few songs round the table. Sunday morning was a lazy one – cooked breakfast all round – and then out to the corn maze up the road at Elton Farm. The weather, which had been variable to say the least, turned the corner on Sunday afternoon and we managed to get both BBQs going and had a super afternoon out in the garden. The kids did a talent show of singing, dancing and some story telling – using the trampoline as their x-factor stage  with all the judges (parents) assembled on the lawn. To close the weekend’s festivities we all sat round the fire pit on the patio and finished off what was left of the food and drinks from our order. An early start on Monday to get everyone up and out and Mill End straight – lots of recycling that week that’s for sure! All out by just after 10am and a fantastic weekend came to an end.

The cats were a hit with the kids and even brought us a little mouse as their talent! We met the cleaner on our way out to the playing fields on one of the days and your dog said hello – how cute!

So, all in all, a great weekend and lots of happy guests. There was even talk of an annual repeat so must have been good!

I would also like to thank you for renting the house to us.  I could not believe how well equipped the house is and how efficient your staff were.  My daughter thoroughly enjoyed herself as did we all.

Hi Liz, Just wanted to drop you a line to say how much we enjoyed the weekend. Even better than last year. We especially loved the new addition. Perfect. We broke 3 glasses and a mug (to my knowledge). Sorry.

Hi Liz

sorry for the time it has taken to send this email- it’s been a hectic week. I just wanted to say thank you so much for making my mother-in-law’s birthday weekend wonderful. She and all the guests absolutely loved Mill End, not to mention the village/friendly villagers! All the rooms are beautiful and many conversations were had over which was our favourite or what ideas we wanted to borrow for our own homes.

The Upper Malt House was perfect with most guests choosing to hang out around the big tables during the day (my partner, I and 2 of his cousins spent a lot of time at the pool table too!), and of course the evening meals were a blast – with the tables pushed together we really felt like we were eating together and not too squeezed-in 🙂

The kitchens were so well equipped we didn’t struggle at all cooking for 22. Oh and a few of us did make use of the hot tub/sauna on the Saturday afternoon after our walk; a lovely treat. The children particularly appreciated the garden play area and all the toys/musical instruments. You really had thought of everything so thank you from all of us 🙂

Hi Liz

I just wanted to pop a note to say that we had a wonderful time at Mill End. Everyone relaxed and enjoyed the house and Richard had a wonderful birthday so it all worked out perfectly.  The boys, in particular, loved the hot tub and I think their mother is now seriously considering saving up for one!

We managed to see quite a bit of the area, which was great, but my 14 year old dog could barely walk the day afterwards, bless him.

The meal was truly superb and I’ve had nothing but glowing appraisals from all the family since their return.  I hope you found the house in good order, we did several rounds collecting bedding / towels and trying to make sure it was all ok.

Hi Liz

I just wanted to say THANKYOU for a brilliant weekend. Everyone got to relax and just enjoy themselves.  The table looked amazing when we came in for dinner and the food was great. Such a good house. Something special about sitting in the hot tub whilst there are grey skies, wind and the odd spot of rain! I definitely feel like my 40th has been well and truly celebrated!

Hi Liz

Just wanted to let you know that we all loved our stay at  The General Stores, and had a brilliant New Year.

The property was so much more than we expected and even with 14 adults and 13 children there was plenty of room for everyone. The upstairs living space was amazing and that was where we spent the majority of our time-eating and drinking too much! The children  all enjoyed the hot tub and out door play area, so much so that there were a few tears when it was time to say goodbye.

Thank you and best wishes for the New Year

Hi Liz,

We had a really great time, thank you! We did get a lot of use out of the hot tub – at one point even in the rain! The house was fantastic for communal dining and we had great fun cooking for lots of people.

We are definitely thinking about re-booking for next year as it is a great venue for a reunion and also great for little ones which are becoming more abundant as time passes….

Many thanks for all the info too – greatly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Jo – 2010

Hi Liz,

We had a fantastic time at the General Stores; both property and location were exactly what we were looking for. Hope that we left it in a reasonable state for you! The facilities were great — especially having so many dishwashers around. We’ve been on big group holidays before, and some of the places we’ve stayed in have been very remote; being just down the road from a decent supermarket made a huge difference to our stay. The courtyard layout was ideal for the young children in the party, as it was easy to keep an eye on them while they enjoyed the outdoor play-area, and the hot-tub/sauna/steam-room were real treats for the adults.

We’d be interested in booking it for a week next summer, preferably the last week of July again but we’re flexible. Could you let me know whether it’s available and what the cost is likely to be? (It’s possible that we could tempt another family to join us, which would need the Lower Malt House too..!)

PS Very happy for you to quote any of this on your website.

Marc Read – Summer 2010

Dear Liz,

Just a quick message of thanks for the use of your wonderful house and garden. We and our group of friends had the most lovely weekend: it was a perfect venue for our reunion, 17 years after we first met in Nepal and now scattered around southern England with children ranging in age from 9 weeks to 6 years. We were coming from different directions and yet were all within about a 2 1/2 hour easy drive. The weather certainly helped but, even without the glorious sunshine, we’d have enjoyed our stay.

There was plenty of room for everyone in comfortable, sumptuous rooms and never a shortage of mugs for tea or glasses for wine. What an incredible room that kitchen/dining room/family room is up under the roof – it’s rare to find somewhere that can seat so many around one table!

The garden was enjoyed enormously by all of us, especially the huge wicker basket swing from which we could hardly prise our girls. I see a trip to Ikea coming on…

Many thanks also for your very thoughtful un-packing of our various deliveries. What a treat to arrive and find the beer and white wine already chilled in the fridge! Not to mention the food items that needed refrigerating.

Altogether it was a fabulous treat – I can easily envisage wanting to return at some point in the future.
Thank you once again.

Best wishes,
Alex – Summer 2010

Hi Liz,

I just wanted to send a quick mail to say what an amazing house you have  – it is so beautifully decorated, well-kept and incredibly well stocked! You have things in all three of your kitchens that I don’t have in mine at all! Very impressive.

Thank you so much – we had a lovely weekend.

Thanks too for all your help on the build up to the weekend.

Katherine – Spring 2010

Dear Liz,

Thank you so much for renting out your cottages to us at the weekend, we all had the most wonderful time! Everyone was immensely impressed with the standard of accommodation and facilities. Is was great that we could all be under one roof and felt neatly tucked away in the courtyard. The kids had a whale of a time on the play area and we even managed to cook a roast dinner for 35 on Sunday using the beautiful banqueting suite! (gorgeous!). It really was an amazing weekend.

Hope you had a good weekend too.

Kind regards,

Carrie – Spring 2010.

Hi Liz,

I just wanted to email you personally to thank you for the amazing weekend we had last weekend. I was the hen that Evelyn and Maddy organised the stay for, and I can honestly say I could not have asked for more from the accomodation. It was just perfect.

You have a beautiful house there and we are already thinking of returning for a re-union new year!! We will definitely all be recommending your property to our friends and family.

Best wishes and thanks once again.

Hi Liz

I have become the new head of the Party Commitee here at VENUE so I have been given your contact details in the hope that we could arrange our FOLIO and VENUE Student Guide Completion Celebration Party at Mill End again this year.

I came last year, in fact I had only started work for VENUE 3 days before the party, and we all had such a great time that we really hope that we can do the same again this year if at all possible? The venue itself was absolutely amazing, the facilities were great, the breakfast was OUTSTANDING and the staff were really friendly so although we have had other offers, we can’t think of any better place to go than Mill End again!
