FAQs
Bathrooms
White cotton bath towels, hand towels, bathmats and loo roll are provided in all bathrooms. Various vintage, retro and toweling dressing gowns are provided in each room for those rooms not with en-suites for trips down the corridor. Please do not use the gowns for the hot tub. Please bring your own beach towels to use outside. Deductions will be made for soiled towels. Sorry!
Kitchens
All kitchens have tea towels, washing up towels and hand towels, washing up liquid and cleaning products.
Tea (traditional and herbal), Coffee (instant and filter) and Sugar is all provided.
Please clean up after yourselves prior to departure. We respectfully ask you to wipe surfaces and tables and load and run dishwashers.
Cleaners are employed to prepare the house for incoming guests, not to clean up after outgoing guests. Please sort your recycling as per clear instructions and into labelled hessian bags and wooden crates provided. Additional time taken by cleaning staff to sort your recycling or excessive black bin waste and unsorted recycling will be charged for at an overtime rate of £50.00 per hour. There is an allocation of one large black bin per booking which if you recycle correctly should be more than adequate.
Dogs
You may bring dogs but there is a £25.00 charge per dog and we asks that they do not sleep on beds or sofas or go into carpeted areas of the house. We flea bomb the house after every group of guests and deep clean ready for next guests. If additional cleaning or gardening is required, this will be taken from the bond at a rate of £50.00 per hour overtime. There is a resident cat for rodent control who lives in our private end of the house - if you have dogs he will keep out of the way.
Karaoke
We're definitely not a Karaoke/DJs/decks/PA kind of house as we are in a village location. If you want a full on house party, sadly, we suggest you book elsewhere!. There is a 10.00pm hot tub curfew & a 12.00pm garden curfew. We kindly ask that you respect our neighbours’ right to summer weekend enjoyment without listening to other people’s music.
Decorations
Please do not use blu tack or sellotape on any of the lime washed walls, graffiti art walls, oak doors or window frames. The lime paintwork marks easily as does the oak. There are high tensile wires with pegs in the upper malt house if you want to create a wonder-wall of photos of your bride to be or birthday person, and you are welcome to wrap bunting etc around the beams in the upper malt house.
Parking
Off street parking is restricted - first in, last out. You will need to park 3 in a row at the bottom of the car park, then 4, then 2 at 90 degrees, tight against the entrance doors/gates then the last two end on to them. There is free on street parking on Mill End and also on Baynham Road, a layby further up The Stenders and a pay car park behind the co-op. Mitcheldean is a safe and friendly village. A group of hens with small cars did once get 13 cars in the car park - our record!
Arrival & Departure
Early arrival pre 5.00pm is usually not possible, unless for £50.00 an hour & pre-arranged - as staff will still working prepping the house. Departure is by 12.00 noon on a Sunday or 10.00 am on a Monday if staying for a 3 night weekend.
We ask that you leave the house as it was found, bar bed linen and towels being ready to be counted for commercial laundry.
On departure, please strip all beds and put bed linen and towels in the sauna space in the top of the barn or in the bath in the jovial colliers. Please load and run all dishwashers. Please wipe all surfaces. You can leave recycling for staff to sort as they know where it goes. There are hoovers in the cupboard under the red carpeted stairs and a broom and mop in the loo upstairs in the barn. Please close windows when you leave to stop rain coming in. Thanks a million. Safe onward journeys.
Food Deliveries
Most supermarkets are used to delivering to the house. There are 3 fridges in the upper malt house, 2 fridge/freezer in the lower malt house and a 3 door drinks chiller. Please arrange a delivery time for after you have arrived and let the drivers know that the entrance is round the back in New St. The Co-op convenience store in the village is very well stocked so you do not need to bring absolutely everything with you and late night bottles of wine or bags of ice are possible a stone’s throw from the house.
Bedding
All bedding is feather and bed linen is white 100% cotton. There are non feather sets for those with allergies in George Cottage, the Butterfly Room day bed drawers and downstairs in the pink ottoman in the blue room. If bed linen comes back from contract cleaners after two washes and is marked by them as still unclean we will deduct the replacement cost of bed linen from your bond, at cost price. If throws have to be commercially cleaned the cost will also be deducted from your bond.
1 - Woodland & blue rooms and all upstairs bedrooms - the fuse board is in the woodland room behind the curtain & the key for that part of the house is in the tan satchel on the apple crate shelves.
2 The Jovial Colliers fuse board is in the the playroom, in the wooden cupboard above the bookshelves with children’s books.
3 The fuse board for the barn is in the cupboard to the right of the cooker in the lower barn and serves the whole barn - upstairs and down. Spare light bulbs are in the small pine drawers upstairs in the red carpeted corridor.
