Mill End Renovations

Mill End’s story began in 2004 when we discovered a mostly derelict three-bedroom property with a disused barn, an empty village shop and even rooms without floors. Hidden beneath layers of pink paint and nicotine-stained beams was the incredible history of The General Stores and The Malt House.

We bought the property shortly after Liz’s mother passed away — while she was also two months pregnant — and the restoration journey has been an adventure ever since.

Over the years, we’ve lived in different parts of the house while carefully restoring it with the help of family & friends and historic building specialists. Along the way we’ve learnt about lime render, horsehair plaster, listed building conservation, archaeology and medieval craftsmanship — even carrying out bat surveys and an archaeological dig.

Today, Mill End is the result of years of passion, hard work and a deep love of historic buildings, combined with Liz’s past journeys through the fashion industry, running a member’s only bar in Bristol aboard a Dutch barge and bringing a bit of the urban graffiti art buzz from Bristol to the Forest of Dean.
